Stress, burnout and depression are the biggest causes of lost productivity in the Australian economy according to PWC. Change fatigue, disruption and uncertainty are distressing many employees, with Gallup estimating that only 13% of people are actively engaged.
The rate of change is only increasing.
The better you can support people through this, the greater your competitive advantage.
Our research shows that leaders have 3 main problems...
“Caring is the new
unfair advantage”
As we rush into the digital revolution, workplaces can seem less human, and yet we all yearn to feel accepted for who we are. We want to be part of a supportive team, have a purpose that excites us, and have the opportunity to grow.
FactorC is a mathematical term which we apply to address this. It is THE CARE EQUATION. When we apply caring to how we manage and lead, we thrive. Self care = thriving self. Team care = thriving team. Customer care = thriving customers.
The evidence below supports this, and it’s also good for business.
HOW DOES
iCARE EVERY DAY WORK?
Gallup estimate that 70% of a team’s engagement is determined by a leader’s words and actions. Educating leaders is, therefore, the key to creating a more caring and supportive culture and stopping the stigma which surrounds mental health.
FactorC is designed to be a simple and proven mental health leadership mentor… as close as your phone.
Our program uses THE CARE EQUATION to multiply better outcomes for our leaders via the FactorC app and learning portal.
It provides training and the just in time support managers need to help their team and promote psychological safety (proven to be the #1 indicator of high-performing teams).
It delivers data analytics for continual improvement and the identification of trends in your teams, tribes and organisation's mood.
How it works
THE CREDENTIAL
Managers complete approx. 90 minutes of contact time in the course section of the app. This is made up of interactive micro-learning moments, action-focussed workplace activities and custom content for your organisation. The app embeds Graeme Cowan’s iCARE framework into every day leadership activities, with a micro-credential awarded upon successful completion.
SCENARIOS and TOOLS
The FactorC app provides just in time, just enough and just for me performance support. It uses an index of short videos, management tools (such as the Moodometer and Action Plans), tips, articles and stories to prepare leaders for uncomfortable conversations e.g. "Is this a mental health or performance management issue?"
MORE
Related curated content (videos, podcasts, articles and interviews) provide users a means to explore more. This section is highly customisable for other related wellbeing initiatives or specific content for your organisation.
The FactorC program enables managers and leaders at all levels to develop their team’s psychological safety via:
- training, job aides and our just in time digital performance support tools
- our curated wellbeing library
- your own custom content
- delivering measurable data analytics on teams, tribes and your whole organisation’s mood (the ‘Moodometer’ app can be used organisation wide)
- identifying the triggers of mood change (the good and bad).

MOODOMETER
The Moodometer is an easy and non-threatening way to discuss mental wellbeing at work. Employees in a positive mood (Green Zone) are 31% more productive, 37% more influential and 300% more creative than those in the Red Zone. Graeme Cowan’s iCARE framework is primarily designed to help those in the Orange and Red Zone.
The content comes from Graeme Cowan’s BACK FROM THE BRINK book series, and what he has learnt by taking over 5000 leaders through his half-day workshops in the last 3 years. It has been designed to bring you a contemporary and engaging user experience, with meaningful and action orientated activities by The Learning Hook, who have been developing award winning elearning solutions since 2012.
Right knowledge, right time, and just for me.
Short pithy lessons incorporating video, audio, copy and interactive exercises.
Testing at the end of each section confirms knowledge transfer.
The purpose of education is not knowledge, but action.
The iCARE framework was created when Graeme Cowan surveyed 4064 people who lived with depression. Graeme asked them what worked best in their recovery. The approach has been validated by clinical psychologists, senior business leaders, rehabilitation specialists and legal experts. iCARE forms the acronym: Identify, Compassion, Access experts, Revitalising work and Exercise.
